10th Planet Jiu Jitsu wins Tasmanian state Titles

Saturday the 18th of May saw Close to 200 competitors and just as many spectators from Jiu Jitsu academies from all over Tasmania and some from Mainland Australia converge to the NFSRA’s Clarence Sports Centre on the Eastern shore for the second instalment of the Tasmanian Submission Championships.

26 Competitors from 10th Planet Hobart and 7 Competitors from 10th Planet Adelaide combining for 112 matches over the course of the day, the coaches had their work cut out for them running from mat to mat ensuring every athlete was cornered.

We had students competing at all ages from our youngest competitor being just 6 years old in the kids division to the oldest at over 40 in the Masters 2 division.
John Rong entered the -85.5kg Purple Belt Gi division (he doesn’t train in the Gi, he just wanted more matches) and did amazingly well submitting both opponents and not having a point scored against him.
We also had 9 females competing all the way from White belt to Black Belt.

Some outstanding sportsmanship was shown by all competitors, we would like to thank all of the opposing teams for coming out and helping to push our abilities, we make each other better.

A huge CONGRATULATIONS goes out to everyone who go out there and competed on the day, well done on getting out of your comfort zone and challenging yourselves with competing, as a coach you did myself, the academy and the affiliation proud.

At the end of the day 10th Planet Hobart scored 165 points and 10th Planet Adelaide scoring 32 points to make a combined 197 points as a team and a combined medal count of 16 Gold medals, 9 Silver medals and 4 Bronze medals.. Taking us to the top of the leaderboard and winning the Academy Championship for the event.

This is something we have strived for and we are very proud of as we are a No-GI specialist academy and have half the opportunity at points due to not entering in the Gi divisions, for us to be able to take the number 1 spot against these great competitors and academies is a testament to our dedication to always working hard and a focus on getting better.

We also want to thank 10th Planet Adelaide for coming down and we share the team title with them as 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Australia, it was a blast having you all down and we can’t wait to share the mats with you all again soon.

Thank you to everyone who gets in the academy, our sponsor Chiro on Collins, the parents of the kids and youths, familys of our members.. we cant do this without you all.
Thank you also to Leith Young and Tom Philpott for documenting the day..
